Gaming Realms x WhichBingo Q&A on Slingo Press Your luck

Our Product Manager, David Willis sat down with WhichBingo to speak about Slingo Press Your Luck and the mischievous mechanic that is Slingo

1) First and foremost, why Press Your Luck? What attracted Gaming Realms to this particular game show IP?

We chose to develop a game around Press Your Luck because it combines a well-loved US television show with a very enjoyable game-show format that translates wonderfully into a Slingo title.

With the show recently returning to prime-time TV in the States, it felt like a great moment to pull the trigger and get this game out there as it’s highly visible right now. Whilst Press Your Luck might not be as well-known outside of North America, the game’s decision-based features are exactly what our players like about Slingo titles, so it seemed to us like a match made in heaven!

As well as having transferable assets that fit the tone of Slingo perfectly, the visuals and theming are extremely memorable. We were also delighted to be able to introduce players to Whammy, the show’s legendary mascot and antagonist. This mischievous character is the perfect substitute for the Slingo devil.

2) Can you take us through all of Press Your Luck’s bonus features?

All of the bonus features in Press Your Luck feature the aforementioned Whammy… As much as we like this cheeky imp, the aim of the game is to avoid him at all costs!

The Take Your Pick feature is a simple pick-and-click mini-game in which the player must make choices for as long as possible to rack up the prize before landing on Whammy. The Lucky Press feature sees players aim to land one of 18 winning prize positions while Spin to Win gives players a go on the wheel of fortune in a hunt for prizes. Finally, the Press Your Luck feature offers players the full Press Your Luck experience, tasking them with hitting a button to reveal cash prizes on a board, emulating the thrilling mini game from the show itself.

Revealing Whammy during any of these bonuses can ultimately lead to the feature ending, sending players mercilessly back to base gameplay to start over again.

3) What challenges are you faced with when developing a branded game like this compared to a standard release?

One of the challenges that comes with developing a branded game such as Slingo Press Your Luck is trying to bring that uniqueness of the brand into the Slingo universe, whilst still allowing both to coexist.

That being said, we were extremely lucky with this game in particular, as Press Your Luck happened to align beautifully with the Slingo mechanics and game design! As you can imagine, our development and design teams were super excited to get stuck into this one because everything fit together so perfectly.

They were allowed to flex their creative muscles with a really unique IP, utilise Whammy throughout the game, and create something fun and exciting that has a whole lot to offer.

4) Where would you rank Press Your Luck amongst your other branded content such as Deal or No Deal and The Chase?

Whilst it’s always difficult to choose a favourite amongst our games, the combination of Slingo and the Press Your Luck brand work incredibly well here and it’s hard to look past that when deciding upon a top title.

We do genuinely believe that Slingo Press Your Luck is one of the best titles we’ve ever created. We really like the variety of the bonuses that allow players to discover new ways to win, and most importantly, enjoy a new and exciting experience with every game!

5) What would you say to people who are still on the fence about Slingo content? Can you convince them to give it a try?

Slingo is a novel mechanic that brings together all of the very best elements of other game-types into one. If I had to summarise it, I would say it offers an exciting and unique experience that isn’t comparable to anything else out there right now.

Each of our titles varies from the next. Take Slingo Press Your Luck for example, its bonus features emulate that of the classic gameshow which is a huge draw. What’s more, triggering these bonus features is so much more achievable than it is in other games, which adds to a unique experience in which the player truly is in control of gameplay.
